Initiatives 14-15 & Wild Pollinators

Hotel Birger Jarl's work to promote our wild pollinators by planting vegetation where small animals and bugs thrive best!

In spring 2024, Hotel Birger Jarl launched a ten-year project at Nyborgs Gård outside Bålsta, in collaboration with Initiative 1415. Through this initiative, the hotel contributes to preserving and strengthening the habitats of wild pollinators in the Swedish agricultural landscape.

In light of the decline of pollinating insects in Europe, on January 24, 2023, the European Commission presented a new gift on wild pollinators to enhance their habitats. This deal is part of the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030.

The loss of pollinators threatens ecosystem stability and key ecosystem services, which can have serious consequences for global food security. Rich biodiversity is essential for the functioning of ecosystems, and pollination plays a key role in both biodiversity and food production.

We now have a 'piece of land of our own', where, working with the landowner, we have implemented several measures to support biodiversity. These include the creation of warm areas, a traditional flower meadow, straw bales, sand beds and fauna depots, and the planting of various deciduous trees and shrubs. These efforts aim to support and promote wild pollinators and other species in the area.

By choosing not to stay in the city, you will also be able to contribute to the conservation of our wild pollinators and biodiversity. We hope that with the help of our guests we will be able to expand our cooperation with Initiative 1415 and thus make further contributions to our environment and future generations.
