Seeing Stockholm from the water is a must. Take a short boat tour or book a longer excursion and enjoy nearly 30 000 islands, islets and rocks.
The Stockholm archipelago offers a wide range of experiences. Bike or hike along a nature trail or have a picnic on the cliffs. Explore uninhabited islets as well as islands with new communities and ancient villages, where large houses and small cottages stand side by side.
Regular boat services serve most of the larger islands, and many of the tours depart directly from Stockholm city center and take you to the outer archipelago and open sea. Buses and most boats run all year round, although more frequently during the summer.
Go island hopping! One of the many ways to experience the Stockholm archipelago is to travel by ferry from island to island. Lapping waves, sunny rock ledges, and unparalleled scenery await you.
There are many different lodging options on the islands. Camp, stay at hostels or check into hotels. In less than an hour, you can get to the closest spots and still experience that true archipelago feeling. Fjäderholmarna or Vaxholm for example.
Fjäderholmarna, Stockholm's closest archipelago island has a lot to offer, only 30 minutes from the city. Enjoy true archipelago atmosphere. Relax on the sunbathed cliffs, visit the museum for old ships or the craftsmen. Here you will find glassblowers, pottery makers, smiths and small shops selling interior decorations and handicrafts. There are several places to eat and drink on the island.
The archipelago ferries depart from Nybrokajen or Strömkajen.
