Nirvan Richter
401-412 - Everyday warmth
These rooms breathe a subdued calm that provides the kind of relaxing atmosphere that is often sorely missed by guests visiting a big city. The effect is unpretentious verging on austere in its simplicity, but at the same time it is imbued with everyday warmth.
NIRVAN RICHTER studied architecture at the Royal Institute of Technology and then went on to study cabinet making at Carl Malmstens Skola in
Stockholm. In 1993, he set up Norrgavel, which now has several shops all over Sweden.
All furniture in the twelve superior rooms designed by Nirvan at Hotel Birger Jarl were painted using egg-yolk-based tempera paint in different colours. The result is furniture that is adapted to the needs of its users without compromising quality. Richter uses solid timber from blonde Swedish wood, natural soap, oil and top-quality linen as well as leather from Swedish cowhide and reindeer-hide.
