Åke Axelsson
Conference room 237
Conference rooms should provide an environment that stimulates those who use
them. And because guests come from a wide range of fields, the room design should
be of a kind to make anyone go “Wow!”
In purely practical terms, the room must be functional and flexible. The ability to retain a high standard of comfort, whether it is furnished for large groups or small, is a must.
ÅKE AXELSSON has extensive experience of design work.
His background is in cabinet-making. He studied at the Swedish State School of Arts, Crafts and Design in the 1950s, since when he has become one of the greats of Swedish design. His décor can be seen in many locations in Stockholm and worldwide. His CV includes the King’s jubilee room at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, the assembly hall of the Swedish Parliament building, and the Bistro & Grill Ruby in Stockholm’s Gamla stan.
In room 237, the tables come from Miljöexpo, the curtain design, known as Vågen (the Wave), is by Anna Sörensson, and the coat rack and pedestal are Åke Axelsson’s own design, as are the Century chairs, which are one of Axelsson’s early chair design pieces. The black and pale grey corridor was also designed by Åke Axelsson, using horizontal stripes to make the corridor shrink and feel shorter than it is in reality.
